Ruby Anne – Biography

Ruby Anne was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas, just a few miles from South Padre Island, SpaceX, and Boca Chica Beach. Her passion for music began at the young age of three, performing for her parents, María del Refugio and Manuel Perez, who quickly recognized her natural talent and love for singing.

She attended Castañeda Elementary School before transferring to Cromack Elementary, where she joined the school choir and earned her first music award—an achievement given to only one student across the entire school. This early recognition inspired Ruby to pursue music more seriously. She later attended Faulk Intermediate School, where she discovered a passion for acting. In the 8th grade, she was honored with the title of “Best Actress in Brownsville.”

Throughout her youth, Ruby remained actively involved in extracurricular activities, including volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Choir. She also sang regularly at Good Shepherd Catholic Church during services and community prayer gatherings.

Ruby began her freshman year at Gladys Porter High School at just 13 years old, continuing to develop her talents in singing, acting, and even exploring nursing courses, all while staying active in sports. She graduated in 1999 and went on to attend UTB/TSC shortly thereafter.

At the age of 20, Ruby began a new chapter of service by joining the Brownsville Police Department. She attended and graduated from the Police Academy in 2003 and has proudly served her community ever since.

In 2017, Ruby took a bold step in her musical journey by auditioning for the hit television show The Voice in Austin, Texas—an experience that further fueled her passion and determination to pursue music on a larger stage. That same year, she was appointed Community Affairs and Public Relations Officer, as well as United Way Loaned Executive for the department. In 2018, Chief Rodriguez approved her official Mariachi uniform, and she became part of the department’s first and only Charro Days Float. On October 1, 2019, Ruby was honored as a Hometown Hero by Texas Regional Bank.

That same year marked a pivotal moment in her music journey, as she formed a close friendship with A.B. Quintanilla III and began recording in his studio, leading to her first #1 hit.

On May 23, 2021, Ruby officially launched her Tejano music career with the release of her debut single “Mi Cumbia,” written by A.B. Quintanilla III and Luigi Giraldo, and produced by Robert “Bobbo” Gomez III alongside the late Noe “Gipper” Nieto. She continued her momentum with “Porque Duele el Amor,” released March 19, 2022, followed by “Por Un Segundo” in May 2022—a heartfelt tribute to her late mother and dedicated to the victims, survivors, and families of Uvalde, Texas.

In February 2023, Ruby released her fourth single, “Ay Dios Mío,” produced by Robert “Bobbo” Gomez III. The remix, featuring WC, was released on June 23, 2023, alongside a music video that gained chart success and earned a nomination in the first round of Premios Tejano Mundial. She also performed the hit live at the All-Star Music Awards in San Antonio.

Ruby’s contributions have earned her numerous recognitions, including the 1st Annual Broche de Oro Excellence Award in 2022 as a Hispanic Culture Ambassador, and a Recognition Award from the Brownsville Music Legacy Awards in November 2023.

Beyond music, Ruby is deeply committed to her community. Her annual Christmas Drive—now a continuing tradition—supports schools, hospitals, nursing homes, and the Brownsville Animal Shelter, impacting countless lives thanks to the support of her sponsors.

A consistent fan favorite, Ruby has performed at the Sombrero Festival for six consecutive years, including a standout main stage performance on February 29, 2024.

2024 marked a major breakthrough year for Ruby Anne. Ruby Anne won 2024’s ALLSTAR MUSIC AWARDS “BEST ENTERTAINER OF THE YEAR” in San Antonio, Texas among other nominations.

She collaborated with producer and Estruendo frontman Eliseo Lopez, who produced her hit single “T.Q.G.” The track debuted at #1 in its first week, and its music video became a huge success, further solidifying her presence in the Tejano and norteño music scene. That same year, Ruby also released the single “Acéptame,” which reached #1 on the charts and marked the beginning of her representation and distribution under Cielo Entertainment, elevating her career to new heights.

She also recorded two upcoming country tracks with Shelly Lares of ShellShock Records, showcasing her versatility as an artist.

Continuing that momentum, Ruby Anne released her debut album, El Principio, in 2025, featuring her hit singles and earning consideration for the Latin Grammy Awards.

Ruby Anne won 2025’s ALLSTAR MUSIC AWARDS “BEST VOCALIST OF THE YEAR” in San Antonio, Texas among other nominations.

She followed this success with her standout single “Mal de Amores” featuring Magali Delarosa, produced by Mario Ortiz Jr. of Studio 830 and BabyGrand Records. The track has dominated the charts, hitting #1 on Mas Chingon Radio and climbing up the charts on multiple radio platforms including KLMO 98.9 FM in San Antonio, Texas, and Houston Tejano Hits, among others. Now being widely distributed and backed by Cielo Entertainment, “Mal de Amores” represents a defining moment in Ruby Anne’s career and continues to gain strong momentum across audiences.

Charro Days Parade remains a deeply meaningful tradition for Ruby Anne and her family. Each year, they dedicate time, effort, and heart into creating her parade float—an experience that brings them closer together and has become a cherished family tradition. They look forward to celebrating annually not only at Charro Days but also at the Mercedes Livestock Show Parade.

Ruby Anne’s journey is a powerful blend of talent, service, and heart. As both a dedicated public servant and a rising Tejano artist, she continues to inspire through her music and unwavering commitment to her community.
